Someone on a forum mentionned that a few year ago, Gabe of Penny Arcade released a screencast of himself inking a strip. I found the video in question, and it’s very interesting to watch him work. Check it out!

This is beyond amazing! The guy who drew this picture deserves a Nobel prize, this looks so realistic! Could you tell it was drawn?

Free drawing ebooks
Thanks to the folks over at DrawingBoard.org for pointing me to free drawing eBooks by Andrew Loomis.
Cup v1.0
This is the cup that I told you about earlier. I drew this in about thirty minutes while I was waiting for my little brother at his guitar class. I like it, but here are a couple of things I noted for v2.0 (you can see some notes in french on the right):
- Rework the handle; you can see that I tried to do that, but in the end it made it look even worse
- Use better shading; I hadn’t read the chapters on shading yet, so I sort of colored the cup to do the shades. Next time, use crosshatching
- Try to make the shading more graduate, smoother
Well, I hope to do better next time. Actually, I think I know I will do better. Hope to post that new cup soon!

As some of you are aware, I have started a new hobby recently: drawing. Who woulda thunk that the guy, who’d rather claim his 7th great-great-grandmother had died the day before in 8th grade to get out of art class, would some day become interested in drawing, eh?
In any case, I have added a new category to this blog to bore you all with my progress and thoughts on drawing. I am going to get a little scanner so I can post things I’ve sketched. This weekend for instance, I drew a coffee cup that I think isn’t so bad. Of course, I noted a few things I should work on: using crosshatching instead of hatching for shading, reworking the handle, etc. I’ll post it this week is I have the scanner.
